During the Renassance “Wunderkammer,” or the room of the “wonders and curiosity” was a German word which indicated particular enviroments in which the antiquarians used to collect rare and exotic objects of art, archaeology and nature. From their first appearance, the “Wunderkammer” had been beacons of civilization and caretakers of culture. Visit Rome

Rome was called the “Eternal City” by the ancient Romans because they believed that no matter what happened in the rest of the world, the city of Rome would always remain standing. Exploring the city centre by foot surrounded by glorious monuments and colossal remains takes you back in time to the “glory that was Rome”

Neighborhood

The home of Roman Wonders is located in one of the oldest distric of Rome, the Coelian hill. The history of the Coelian hill originates in a very remote time dating back to the period of the Etruscan kings.  The name “Caelius “derives from that of the Etruscan king Caelius Vibenna , one of the leaders of Vulci with whose help the sixth king of Rome , Servio Tullio would have occupied the Coelian hill . The oldest name of the district , however, was that of “mons Querquetulanus”, mount of the oaks for the presence of an ancient forest of oaks sacred to Juppiter. Recent archaeological excavation on  the Coelian hill have demonstrated that in Roman times the district was crowded with  private houses ( insulae) and from the Imperial times became the privileged residence of  the noble patrician families of Rome with luxurious residences rich in frescoes , marbles and mosaics. A forest of Christian Churches sprang up over the ruins of the luxurious Roman houses so that today the Coelian district is one of the district of Rome that boasts the largest number of churches mostly of medieval age. Among the most important churches of the district there is the Church of Saint Clement built over a Roman domus of the I senctury A.D. and a mytreum , the Church of Santi Quattro Coronati that was a fortress Church as protection of the Pope from attacks of the Normans, the Church of Santo Stefano Rotondo with it’s unique circular shape constructed above a mytreum , the Church of Santa Maria in Domnica,  and finally the Church of Santi Giovanni and Paolo under which is hidden the precious treasure of a patrician domus of the 4th century A.D. which preserves splendid frescoes , mosaics and architectures.  Your holiday at home of Roman wonders will be therefore a unique opportunity to explore the fascinating Coelian district, a true open air museum. The Coelian neighboroods are also full of excellent restaurants,  pizzerias , pubs and caffè  and there is a delicious open air market where you can find fresh and genuine local products for your cuisine.

What else? The archaeological central area of Rome the imperial forums and the Colosseum , the Roman Forum  is located just 5 minutes walking distance from the house, the Colosseum Metro Station less then 500 meters  and the main   Rome Termini Train Station, 30 minutes walk from home.

What People Say

My family with 14 year old boy visited Rome in April and the highlight of our trip was Roman Forum-Palatine-Coliseum walking tour. It was our second visit in Rome for me and my husband, but the first time we visited the ancient ruins on our own.
From that visit I got an impression of this sites as the huge piles of old stones... I didn't want our teenager son has the same experience and we decided that we need a tour guide.
I found Claudia Pinci on the website www.thehomeofromanwonders.com She is an expert archaeologist and licensed tour guide in Rome. We had a great tour with her.
For all of us Coliseum, Forum, Palatine raise like alive, miracle place full of history and memories of real people lives.
We really enjoyed listen what Claudia explained to us, but not less important was possibility to ask any questions to real expert with huge passion in archeology.
And it was our pleasure and fun to meet a nice Italian lady who could share some stories about life in today's Rome and, for example, her own experience with restaurants.
I was recently in Rome and had an amazing walking tour of ancient Rome with Claudia Pinci at romantrails.com I found Claudia when researching tours of the forum and the house of Augustus.
It is the only tour I found that provided a detailed tour of the house of Augustus.
Claudia is an expert archaeologist and local that has extensive knowledge of ancient rome. It is one of the best tours I have ever taken.
She took my boyfriend and I for a walk through the roman forum, Palatine hill, house of Augustus, and Colosseum.
She provided informative and interesting information at each site. I strongly recommend this tour to anyone wanting a personal and highly interesting tour.
She provides a variety of tours and can certainly tailor a tour to meet your individual interests. www.thehomeofromanwonders.com.
